There are approximately 2 million reported home burglaries each year in the United States. There is no telling how many additional burglaries go unreported, as well. If you're a homeowner, one of your main responsibilities is to keep your family, your home, and all the valuable items inside safe from harm or theft.
Here are a few tips for protecting your property that will keep your home, family, and items safe and secure.
- Use biometric safes for smaller valuable items -- Biometric safes are great for keeping your items safe and locked away. Criminals are crafty and know what to look for during a burglary. Simply hiding your valuable items in certain areas of your home will most likely not do the trick. You're going to have to keep things like cash, jewelry, laptops, and other devices stored in an impenetrable safe. There are excellent floor and wall safes you can get in your home that will be both hidden and extremely difficult to open.
- Use vaults for larger valuable items -- If you have a significant amount of high-value items that you need to protect or certain items that are much too large for a traditional safe, consider using vaults for your property protection. With these large-scale walk-in safes, you will be able to keep just about any item stored inside and away from any criminal
- Install cameras inside and outside your home -- Cameras are great crime deterrents because they scare away any potential thieves. Even if your camera is just a decoy, simply having it atop your house will more than likely prevent a burglar from entering your home because they will believe they are being watched. If you want to ensure your protection, however, installing a working security system is your best bet.
- Build relationships with your neighbors -- Some neighborhoods have neighborhood watch programs in place. These programs are great because everyone on your block will work together to prevent these criminals from breaking into any house. If your neighborhood doesn't have a watch program, you should still build friendly relationships with them so you can help each other out. Especially if you're going on a long trip, you can let your neighbors know and they will keep an eye on your property when you're gone.
