Gun Safety and the Aurora Shooting

Our hearts go out to the victims and families of the victims in the Aurora, Colorado shooting. Around here, we’re not quite sure what to make of such a senseless tragedy, the loss of life, and the heartbreak that affects not only a community but an entire country. As so much of the media has been talking about over the last week since the shooting, we’re also considering the need for better gun safety and gun control legislation. In an effort to do our (very, very) small part, we thought this would be a good time to remind you of some basics of gun safety and what you can do to ensure that your firearms are use safely and kept securely. Below you’ll find the four basic rules of gun safety:

  1. Assume your gun is always loaded
  2. Never point a gun at something you aren’t ready to shoot
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
  4. Be sure of your target and backstop.
By minding these general rules and keeping your firearms and all firearm accessories tightly locked away in a gun safe at home or at your local range, you’ll help avoid 99% of all gun accidents. Once again, our hearts and prayers go out for the victims and everyone affected by the Aurora shooting. While there is so little we can do to help at all, please know that you are on all our minds and in all our hearts. If you are interested in donating to the medical care of those fighting for their survival, there are various organizations set up to accept donations. Please check out: Aurora Victim Relief Fund, Colorado Red Cross, or Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance. Any small amount will help.
